Galson Offers Intern / Scholar Program; Students, Region and Company Will Benefit

SYRACUSE, NY - Galson Laboratories, a world leader in industrial hygiene analysis and monitoring solutions, is offering work experience and scholarships to qualified students at colleges and universities in and around Central New York.

The Galson Intern/Scholar Program awards $1,000 annual scholarships to successful applicants studying chemistry, environmental science and industrial hygiene. In addition to the scholarship, participants are paid to intern a minimum of 180 hours over the course of a year. The interns work on projects related to developing analytical methods and process improvements.

According to Mary Unangst, Senior Vice President, Galson Laboratories has been growing 20 percent a year for the past 10 years and needs talented chemists to fill the positions created by this growth.

"Our Intern/Scholar Program is part of an effort to introduce local students to opportunities in chemistry right here in Central New York," Unangst said. "It offers several exceptional local students a great opportunity to gain experience in a world-class environment while helping to fund their education. We've teamed with regional schools to get the word out and have even interviewed on campus at Le Moyne College."

Four local students were picked for the 2006 Galson Intern/Scholar Program, which started in October. They are Le Moyne College juniors Tatyana Konyakhina and Christopher Osier, Le Moyne College sophomore Jerod Leff and SUNY-Oswego junior Sara Leo.

Students interested in being considered for next fall's program should submit a completed application, found at www.galsonlabs.com/company/scholarships, and a copy of their most recent transcript or an official record of courses and grades. Interviews will begin next fall and scholarship winners will be chosen in October 2007. Applications for fall 2007 may be submitted either online or sent to Galson Laboratories, Att: Mary Unangst, Senior Vice President, on or before September 15, 2007.
