Galson Laboratories Adds ISO 17025:2005 Accreditation

Syracuse, NY - Galson Laboratories, the world leader in industrial hygiene analysis and monitoring solutions, and a fully accredited American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) laboratory, has added ISO 17025:2005 accreditation, a leading international laboratory quality management system (QMS) standard,  from the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). ISO 17025 recognizes testing and calibration laboratories for exceptional quality in their administrative and technical operations. This makes Galson one of the only two industrial hygiene laboratories in the U.S. with this accreditation and the only industrial hygiene laboratory certified for technical competence in three fields of analysis - biological, environmental and chemical.

The company's international business, according to Joe Unangst, Galson Laboratories president, has had steady growth, and ISO 17025 accreditation should result in an additional boost. "Over the past 11 years, our business has grown an average of 20% a year. International business is becoming more important to our growth as it increased 53% last year," Unangst said. "Obtaining this international quality standard recognition will allow us to pursue international opportunities even more aggressively."

"The accrediting audit was an intense review of all of our systems. We earned accreditation on the first try, " Unangst said, "which underscores to our clients and the global industrial hygiene community how committed we are to providing the best possible data to protect workers."

The ISO standard encompasses every aspect of laboratory management, from sample preparation to analytical testing proficiency, record keeping, and reports. It includes reviews of personnel qualifications, document control, corrective and preventive action, accommodation and environmental conditions, equipment, measurement uncertainty, evidence of traceability and sampling.

Galson Laboratories, now in its 38th year of innovative service to its clients, is headquartered in East Syracuse, NY with offices in Richmond, VA, Charleston, SC, Alameda, CA and Clear Lake Shores, TX.
