Galson Laboratories Celebrates 40 Years of Serving Industrial Hygiene Marketplace
Syracuse, N.Y. - Galson Laboratories, a world leader in industrial hygiene analysis and monitoring solutions, is observing its 40th year of serving the industrial hygiene marketplace. Galson Laboratories was founded in 1970 by Allen Galson who recognized the need for industrial hygiene services to help industry manage environmental and occupational health risks. He assembled a team of chemists to help companies comply with the new Occupational Health and Safety Act and emerging environmental legislation. The company grew steadily, responding to the increased regulatory requirements with new technologies and methods to meet the more stringent standards.
At the end of 1996, Joe Unangst, who directed the laboratory operations at the time, purchased the Galson laboratory operations. Unangst focused the company on client service, the continuous improvement process and on developing innovative programs to meet clients' needs, all of which have contributed to the continued success and growth of the company. Galson Laboratories is headquartered in East Syracuse, NY with offices across the United States in Charleston, SC, Alameda, CA, Clear Lake Shores, TX and Stevens Point, WI. With a staff of 85 professionals, Galson Laboratories provides data necessary for its clients to make the right decisions to protect people from exposures to hazards.
"We offer services to every state of the union and its territories as well as 38 different countries," said Unangst. "We are recognized for quality by our national accreditation and our global ISO 17025 accreditation by AIHA. We work under the principles of continuous improvement and have developed the leading programs for our clients such as our FreePumpLoan™ and FreeSamplingBadges™ programs to name a few."
He added, "The data we provide is critical in assessing hazardous exposures to people in many environments - work, home, indoor air and ambient air. Accurate and precise data is needed to assure people are not exposed at levels that could be detrimental to their short term and long term health. Consultants and Health and Safety professionals rely on this data to determine the proper protective equipment and engineering solutions needed to keep people safe."
The future for Galson Laboratories looks bright according to Unangst. "Our vision is to be recognized as the global leaders in providing the means to obtain data through laboratory analysis, real-time monitoring and all available methods for the protection of workers in the industrial hygiene, environmental health, and safety fields."
Unangst feels that Galson is on the verge of becoming the global leader in providing industrial hygiene analyses and health and safety monitoring solutions. "Our ISO 17025 accreditation through AIHA provides Galson with global acceptance to provide these services. No other full-service industrial hygiene laboratory in the United States is ISO 17025 accredited for industrial hygiene, environmental microbiology and environmental lead."
